For years, my family attended this great event in Pittsburgh. Family House Polo at Hartwood Acres was a staple event and the perfect wrap-up to our summer bucket list (it falls in September). We would bring the kids, have a lavish spread, and enjoy friends, a super sport, and of course, the fashion.
Ballon sculpture is always a huge hit at Polo. My boys are far left and second from right.
Tbone and a friend being VERY fancy in our tent. Where has the time gone????
As our kids got older and sports took over, it became more challenging to attend.
Fast forward to W by Worth’s fall collection and I saw EQUESTRIAN EVERYWHERE!! The runways are full of it, our collection has NAILED it, and I dreamed of polo once again.
The Family House charity
Before I contacted my dear friend Beth at Family House, I’ll admit I was lacking in really understanding the mission of Family House. Click the photo to learn more about them, but what I learned is best described by this testimonial of a guest of one of the facilities:
“This is Family House. This is the place that I found kindness, friendly smiles, caring hearts and people that have turned into friends, if not family.”
Family House is a residence for families undergoing treatment at local hospitals, awaiting organ transplants, or prior to a surgery and truly creates a HOME for its guests. Huge kitchens, comfortable rooms, and social spaces to encourage a supportive environment for guests undergoing the unthinkable are what I found when I was invited to tour a house and meet with the director. The Polo Match is in its 34th year supporting the cause. It is on the grounds of Hartwood Acres Park
First things first. If you live or can visit the Pittsburgh area on September 9th, get your tickets by clicking this photo.
Click the photo for ticketing options for the September 9th event–I’ll be there!
Keep your eyes on Moxie Mama, too, as Family House GENEROUSLY donated a 6 pack of tickets and a parking pass for me to gift to one lucky follower. Contest details coming soon!
Ok, I’m all in (again), but what to wear….
I had the unique opportunity to tour Hartwood Acres for a photo shoot with some of my top picks for polo from W by Worth. (More about the mansion and grounds in an upcoming blog post.)
My first look is a great dress with an equestrian “hardware” pattern in the fabric. It’s a unique ombre in a lightweight fabric and perfect with a wedge pump.
Nude wedges and a long rope of pearls are all you need for this easy look. Click the photo for item details but contact me to order!
Love the bit and bridle detail of the fabric. Has POCKETS TOO!!!
*wedges are the ONLY heels to wear on the field, ladies* I learned this lesson the hard way. Flat shoes or a wedge.
The ombre fabric repeats in these incredible palazzo pants, too. Love them with our gold faux leather biker to toughen the look a bit!
Check my personal site for these items and more
For a more casual look, our black equestrian-styled pants (they are like SPANX and I LOVE THEM) with over-the-knee boots, our on the hunt red tie blouse, create a comfortable option with great future wearability. These stables are also on the Hartwood Acres grounds.
Brixton “Fiddler” hat linked in the photo.
click the photo for the W by Worth details and contact me to order.
The OTK boots are a super choice for the fields. Probably the best shoe choice for the stomping of the divots!
My final (and favorite!) look brings back the OTK boots with a scarf-like faux wrap skirt and our faux suede cutaway vest. The skirt will be perfect when the temperatures drop with a cashmere turtleneck and the vest will just slay all day anytime you wear it!
Literally cannot wait to wear this!
A small cross body bag (like this one from Brahmin) and a couple gold bangles are all the accessories you need to finish this look. Love the equestrian details.
My time at this exquisite estate in our beautiful clothes (for a wonderful cause) was a dream. I hope you will join OUR family at the Family House Polo Match next month!
*I’m giving back too! I am donating 10% of any orders from now until August 20th to Family House Charities (no discounts or other promotions apply. Contact me directly for your personal shopping experience.)
